WHAT DO WE MEAN BY CLAIMING SPACE?

By claiming space we mean individuals or groups using spaces in the city despite the intended function and according to their own needs and interest. These can vary according to different socio-economic realities.

OUTLINE

The Competition is designed for visual artists, creatives, groups and individuals, to reflect upon and represent, through a visual intervention, how urban dwellers in Dar es Salaam, individually or in an organized manner, claim space and, in this way, help shape the city’s space.

ELIGIBILITY

The contest is open to all artists or groups of artists and professionals from any country. There are no special qualifications required to compete. Registered applicants should be above 18 year of age

CRITERIA

Concept and context:  What is the idea behind the proposal and does it portray the realities of Dar es Salaam?

Originality: Does the idea bring to the shore a new understanding about claiming space?

FORMAT

Honorable mentions and certificates.

The best 10-15 ideas will be selected to participate in a design workshop and display their work in a final exhibition.

Cash prize for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners of the final exhibition.
